Ann Ragsdale, Candidate for State Senator, Senate District 31

Representative Ann Ragsdale

Choosing our next senator should come down to a simple factor: who do you believe will do the best job. In the end, we’re all Democrats, and we agree on most issues. I believe I am your best choice because at the end of the day, I can get results.

You may be interested in my political experience as you determine your important vote on the vacancy committee.

In 1998, the voters sent me to the Colorado House of Representatives as your legislator. Over the next 8 years, they sent me back three more times, electing me by margins of 61% to 79%. In 2004 I ended my eighth session under the dome, meaning I could not serve any more as your Representative because of term limits.

While I was there, I followed my values on every vote. I voted to protect your civil rights. I fought to protect a woman’s right to choose and for decent treatment of workers around Colorado. And I worked to protect your tax dollars, making sure they didn’t get used for private or religious school vouchers.

In the House, I worked for the people of Colorado. I arrived early and stayed late meeting with constituents, hearing their concerns and ideas, and helping them work through their problems. While there, I was the Vice Chair of the State Veterans and Military Affairs Committee. I also served on the Transportation and Energy and Local Government Committees. In the interim periods, I served for eight years on the Fire and Police Pension Association, the Transportation Legislative Review Committee and the Committee on State Records.

Each year, I took proactive steps to bring people into the legislative process. Visiting local schools in the shared district (HD 35/SD 31), I talked with students, teachers and principals to encourage them to take a more active role in their government. Then I worked with them to set up a visit to the Capitol.

Campaigning is not just about raising money and sending email. A typical Ragsdale campaign supports the Democratic ticket by organizing volunteers to walk the district to distribute Democratic literature. I appreciate getting to know the voters and finding the best ways to campaign. Even today, HD 35 and SD 31 continue to hold town meetings together, a practice I instituted. People who have worked with me in the past vouch for my dedication and tireless perseverance.

As you consider your important vote in the May 20th vacancy election, I again ask for your vote.
