STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
It is time for Democrats to strengthen their leadership in the Colorado Senate. To win in 2010, Governor Ritter needs strong support from Democrats in Denver and Adams County to give him the confidence to pursue a progressive agenda for Colorado.
I will work hard to strengthen the Colorado Senate. I pledge to be accessible full-time to all the residents of Senate District 31 and responsive to their diverse needs. I want the Colorado Senate to achieve a high standard of trust and effectiveness and be an example of good government.
My business and international experience has taught me how to obtain results and build trust from people with diverse cultural backgrounds. My academic work has given me an understanding of the broader social and political aspects of economic and public policy problems.
As a neighborhood and community activist, I have worked to make Downtown Denver a safe and economically vibrant, cultural center of the city. As a US Peace Corps volunteer, I witnessed first-hand the effects of the collapse of the Russian economy and subsequent hyper-inflation. I learned how people in desperate circumstances call for responsive government.
As Democrats, we must respond to the call for good government. It is time for us to pick up the pieces of the so-called “Reagan Revolution”. We need to strengthen our ties to each other and make our institutions more responsive to our needs. We can no longer simply rely on the blind forces of the market to cure all ills.
I will bring dedication and energy to the Colorado Senate to fight for our shared Democratic values: including higher standards for banks and credit card companies, better roads and public transit, a stronger public education system, a more accessible healthcare system, protection for civil rights and more resources for jobs in an energy efficient economy.
