Thank You From The Chair

Dear Denver Democrats!

I don't know about you, but I am still reeling from the euphoria of Election Day. That evening was surreal for me as I watched CNN call the election for President-elect Obama. In my gut I knew he'd win. But after working so hard in 2000, and again in 2004 -- I wouldn't let myself get too excited for fear that another election would be stolen from underneath us. That evening those eight year old wounds closed up and I once again believed the words of Margaret Mead who said: "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."

You are the ones who made it happen. The ones who made calls, knocked on doors, and talked to your neighbors and friends and family about the future of our country and why they should vote for President-elect Obama, Senator Udall, Congressman Polis, Congresswoman Markey or any one of our newest members of the Colorado statehouse - Representatives Miklosi and Court!

You've worked your buns off and you've created history and turned Colorado from a bright red state, to a bright blue state in a sea of red!

Thank you for all of your hard work, dedication, sweat, time away from your families and all of the other sacrifices we'll never know you made to fulfill on a dream we've all had for our state and for our country.

I was very impressed and proud of the way our party worked with the Obama campaign for the last 15 months. Under the direction of Obama State Director Ray Rivera, and the leadership of our GOTV Chair Mark Mehringer and our House District Captains and Co-Captains, we created a partnership that was truly unprecedented. The Executive Committee had vowed that this election year the Democratic Party of Denver was going to be a force to be reckoned with and we were!

I simply can't say thank you enough.

Jennifer Coken, Chair

New Speaker of the House - Terrance Carroll

The Democratic Party of Denver congratulates Rep. Terrance Carroll, of House District 7, who will begin his fourth and final term in the State House of Representatives in January as Speaker of the House. Elected Thursday, 11/6 by the Democratic caucus of 38, he is the surprise successor to term limited Rep. Andrew Romanoff, after his predicted replacement incumbent Rep. Bernie Buescher barely lost a heartbreaking election in Grand Junction.
