Edward M. Kennedy Annual Awards Dinner Photos
Submitted by david_somerfleck on Tue, 11/17/2009 - 4:02pmPhotos from Recent Edward M. Kennedy Awards Dinner
The following photos are from the recent Edward M. Kennedy annual fundraising dinner and awards night, as hundreds of Denver Democrats gathered for the event.
The event marked the one-year anniversary of the historic election that turned Colorado blue and sent Barack Obama to the White House. We were fresh off recent School Board Election victories for Denver Democrats Andrea Merida (District 2), Jeanne S. Kaplan (District 3), Nate Easley (District 4), and Mary Seawell (At Large) and the resounding defeat of I-300 on the ballot;.
We recognized four inspiring Denver Democrats--House District 6 Chair and 6A Captain Sallyanne Ofner, Senator Chris Romer (Senate District 32), Senator Pat Steadman (Senate District 31), and House District 7A Captain Isabella Allen--for their tremendous service to the Party.
We honored the late Senator Ted Kennedy by naming the dinner in his memory and hearing stirring remarks by Senator Michael Bennet, Keynote Speaker David Sirota, and former Speaker of the House and current U.S. Senate candidate Andrew Romanoff, who collectively put Kennedy's legacy into perspective in terms of the ongoing call to bring progressive ideals into action beyond Election Day.
And if we didn't have cause enough to celebrate already, during Sirota's keynote address, Congresswoman Diana DeGette, one of the few elected Denver Democrats not in attendance, sent word from Washington D.C. to her family attending the dinner that the U.S. House of Representatives had just passed The Affordable Health Care for America Act. When Democratic Party of Denver Chair Cindy Lowery shared the news following Sirota's speech, her announcement was greeted with a roaring ovation from a crowd of activists who had spent months, years, and decades in the trenches fighting for Health Care Reform.

HD9 August 22 Community Event Review and Photos
Submitted by david_somerfleck on Mon, 08/31/2009 - 10:46amFrom www.HolisticCommunityLiving.com:
"On August 22, volunteers from the House District 9 Democrats, the House District 3 Democrats, the University Hills Neighborhood Association, and the First Universalist Church offered their service at the Holistic Community Living Home under renovation in University Hills, Denver. The volunteers removed sod and prepared for the building of gardens at the home."
"State Representative from House District 9, Joe Miklosi first approached me about having a day of service offered by the House District 9 Democrats. They invited the House District 3 Democrats to join in and soon the University Hills Neighborhood Association and the First Universalist Church joined the project. About 20 volunteers showed up and removed two truckloads of sod and debris for recycling, making way for new gardens at the home. Retired landscape architect Fran Shure donated her time to supervise our volunteer work force."
Below are some photos from the event:
