Resolution in Opposition to Amendment 62
The Executive Committee of the Democratic Party of Denver
passed unanimously, August 17, 2010
 
WHEREAS The Democratic Party of Denver is committed to the independence, health and well-being of women and their families in Colorado; and
 
WHEREAS we oppose governmental intrusion into people’s most important life decisions; and
 
WHEREAS we oppose criminalizing doctors, nurses and medical professionals for providing legally and constitutionally protected health care to women and their families; and
 
WHEREAS Amendment 62 would imposethe religious beliefs of aparticular religious group as the law of the land, in direct opposition to the Constitutional guarantees of freedom of religion and the separation of government and religion; and
 
WHEREAS Amendment 62 would create a legal quagmire by amending the Colorado Constitution to create conflicts with and ambiguities within thousands of statutes in the State of Coloradoand with federal statues, including those involving inheritance, child welfare, family support and biological research; and
 
WHEREAS we support a woman's right to make her own decisions about her health care, and that women should have full access to a wide range of medical treatments and procedures, including abortion; and
 
WHEREAS we believe the vagueness of Amendment 62 would result in far-reaching medical and legal consequences for the people of the state of Colorado if it were to pass on November 2, 2010:
 
THEREFORE be it RESOLVED, that the Executive Committee of the Democratic Party of Denver opposes Amendment 62, urges a “No” vote on Amendment 62 on the General Election ballots cast on or before November 2, 2010, and commits to educating the electorate on the dangers of Amendment 62.
