Precinct Committee Person (PCP)

Title: Precinct Committee Person

Duties:   As a Precinct Committee Person (PCP), you are the representative of the Democratic Party in your neighborhood.   PCPs are elected at the precinct caucus and serve a two-year term. PCPs can also be appointed by the Chair with the advice of the Sub-District Captain and Co-Captain to fill a vacancy. Any registered Democrat is eligible to be a PCP in the precinct where she/he lives.

The primary role of a PCP is to serve as the connection between the Party and
voters, and represent her/his precinct within the Party.  Download the 2010-2011 PCP Handbook here to learn more.

Skills/characteristics:  We need someone who is proud to be a Democrat and is willing to talk to people in the neighborhood and is committed to helping others participate in elections to the extent that they will help inform neighbors about opportunities to vote and candidates and issues that will be voted on.

Commitment:
  • Attend House District meetings once a month to learn the latest news and participate in discussions.
  • Attend Central Committee meetings once or twice a year to vote on rules and budgets, and vote for your County Party officers.
  • Vote in a Vacancy Election if one necessary.
  • Help with Get Out the Vote (GOTV) efforts.
The time needed for this is variable.  The most important thing is to maintain communications with other Democrats in your neighborhood and precinct, either by yourself or by finding additional volunteers.

To volunteer: Check your House District Portal and contact you sub-district officers to inquire about vacant PCP slots.  Attend your Precinct Caucus on Tuesday, March 6th at 7 p.m. to get elected as your neighborhood PCP.
