IMMIGRATION REFORM: ARIZONA SB1070 AND BEYOND
On September 7, 2010, ACS's Colorado Lawyer Chapter, in conjunction with the Colorado Hispanic Bar Association, will host a panel discussion at the University of Denver Sturm College of Law entitled “Immigration Reform: Arizona SB1070 and Beyond.” A distinguished panel of legal scholars and immigration attorneys will discuss the Arizona bill, the debate over its constitutionality and its impact on the immigration reform debate nationwide. The panel will also answer questions, from the audience, time permitting. The panel is free and open to the public.
Damian Arguello, President, Colorado Hispanic Bar Association (CHBA); Associate, Davis Graham and Stubbs LLP. His practice area focuses on risk management issues, particularly insurance coverage, environmental, health and safety matters. Mr. Arguello has been an Executive Committee Member of the CHBA since 2006 and is a Denver native.
Gabriel J. (Jack) Chin, Chester H. Smith Professor of Law, Professor of Public Administration and Policy and Co-Director, Program in Criminal Law and Policy, University of Arizona James E. Rogers College of Law. Most recently, Mr. Chin’s article, A Legal Labyrinth: Issues Raised by Arizona Senate Bill 1070, has been published by the Georgetown Immigration Law Journal.
Mari Matsumoto, Staff Attorney, Rocky Mountain Immigration Advocacy Network. Ms. Matsumoto previously worked at Gibbs Houston Pauw, an immigration law firm in Seattle, and at the Northwest Immigrant Rights Project, an immigration legal services organization.
Bernadette (Ginger) McGuire, Colorado Chapter Chair, American Immigration Lawyers Association; Immigration Attorney, McGuire Law Firm, P.C. Ms. McGuire has experience in family based immigration, and has successfully represented clients in front of the Executive Office for Immigration Review and the Board of Immigration Appeals in removal/deportation proceedings.
Senator Chris Romer, Moderator, State Senator of Colorado for the 32nd District. Senator Romer, previously a public finance banker at JPMorgan Chase, worked in education as the president of the Knowledge is Power Program, a Denver network of charter schools, and founded the Colorado I have a Dream Foundation where he served as president.
